Larger Hylocereus polyrhizus cacti, grown from seed. H. polyrhizus, also known as red dragon fruit or red pitaya, is a vining cactus which yields large, red skinned and deep red fleshed fruit. Red dragon fruit is rich in betacyanins, antioxidants and a variety of vitamins and minerals. Fruit has a sweet mild flavor, reminiscent of watermelon and strawberries with a texture similar to that of a pear or a kiwi. Plants are not self-fertile, but will pollinate readily with other individual dragon fruit plants. Flowers are large and white, producing an aroma most similar to vanilla.
